Landscapers who live in the Local Government Areas of concern (Bayside, Blacktown, Burwood, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Liverpool, Parramatta, Strathfield, and some suburbs of Penrith) are now permitted to undertake outdoor work at occupied sites in their own Local Government Area.  See here for the full details.

Prescribed work in an outdoor area

For local government areas of concern, prescribed work (renovations, repairs, maintenance or cleaning) can continue if:

  • the prescribed work takes place in an outdoor area at a place of residence; and
  • no more than 5 workers visit the place of residence at any time.

Prescribed work in an outdoor area does not have to be necessary. You do not need an exemption or confirmation from the NSW Government to do prescribed work in an outdoor area.

Examples of prescribed work in an outdoor area include:

  • hard and soft landscaping works
  • repairing or maintaining a roof, including its replacement
  • building a detached outbuilding including a pergola, deck, shed or carport
  • repairing or maintaining a fence, including its replacement
  • external painting
  • establishing and/or maintaining a garden
  • installing a swimming pool and fencing for it
  • installing, repairing or maintaining a driveway
  • pest control inspections and treatment.

Rules and restrictions

  • Follow the face mask rules.
  • If you are doing prescribed work in an outdoor area, no more than 5 people can work in an outdoor area at the same time.
  • At this stage, workers from the LGAs of concern cannot leave their LGA to carry out prescribed work.

This change has come as a direct result of the work TLA has been doing with industry groups and the NSW Government and we continue to advocate on behalf of the industry to see further easing of restrictions in a COVID-safe way.

Priority vaccinations for authorised workers from the LGAs of concern

From Monday 16 August, people who live in any of the LGAs of concern and who work on un-occupied construction sites anywhere in NSW are eligible to make priority bookings for vaccinations.  See here for details and booking links.
