Tighter COVID restrictions announced: All construction to cease until 30 July

NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian has announced further tightening of COVID restrictions for Greater Sydney including Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shell Harbour and Central Coast.

From midnight tonight, Saturday 17 July 2021:

  1. All construction works must cease until midnight on Friday 30 July 2021.  There are no exceptions to this rule, however, the Government has advised that businesses have until Monday morning, 19 July, to secure and make safe their construction sites. Maintenance works can only be carried out where they are urgent.  Any non-essential maintenance must be postponed until after the restrictions are lifted.
  2. All non-essential retail is to close from today, other than for click and collect, takeaway or home delivery services.  There is a list of essential retail outlets available here, and it includes nurseries and hardware/building supply businesses.
  3. Residents of the Local Government Areas of Fairfield, Liverpool and Canterbury-Bankstown must not leave their local areas until midnight on Friday 30 July 2021, other than to provide emergency services.

Additionally, employers who force their employees to come to the office to work can now be fined $10,000.  The Premier has also advised all members of the Greater Sydney community that they must not car-pool and that they must carry a mask at all times and wear a mask at any time when they are in contact with people outside of their immediate household.

Full details of the latest restrictions can be found here.

Business support measures, and financial support for individuals who have lost work as a result of the lockdown, were announced last week.

While we know these tightened measures have an enormous impact on the landscaping sector, we encourage all members to adhere strictly to the measures imposed.  This will ensure the best chance of the lockdown ending at the earliest possible time.
