It was heartening to gather with a group of TLA members, both new and seasoned, who were open to both asking for advice and sharing their experiences. at the combined AGM, seminar and networking event. Chris Richardson (Skyline Landscapes) moderated the panel discussion “Running your business in tough economic times”. The panel consisting of  John Corban – Landscapers Coach, Steven Brown – Etienne Lawyers , Chris Richardson  – Skyline Landscape Services, Shannon Decker – Director of Now & Zen Landscapes offered a broad range of expertise and were forthcoming in explaining how they ran their business, to deal with the issues arising from rising prices and other contractual issues. The evening ran well into the night after the conclusion of the seminar, highlighting the importance of being part of the TLA member network and knowing that other members are there to offer their support.

Some of the insights shared on the night included-

  • Knowing your niche market and sticking to it.
  • The importance of the landscaper/client relationship and maintaining open communication.
  • Ensuring the client understands what can realistically be achieved within their budget.
  • The pro’s and con’s of different contract types and how the client may perceive changing supply costs throughout the duration of the job.

The AGM financials from the previous year were circulated and accepted. There were 8 nominations for the 8 available positions, therefore no ballot was necessary, so in accordance with the Constitution those members nominated are declared elected:

Jude Bates – Life Member
Ron Berkelmans – Good Manors Pool + Garden
Shannon Decker – Now & Zen Landscapes
Hamish Inglis – Landscape Solutions
